HOCI: Healing Our Core Issues

The Healing Our Core Issues Model (HOCI) created by Jan Bergstrom and Dr. Rick Butts is a developmental and relational trauma (DART) therapy. It is centered around the exploration of one's authentic self and the cultivation of healthy relationships, both within oneself and with others. It acknowledges that life experiences leave lasting imprints on our nervous system, which can continue to affect our daily lives and relationships until we develop self-awareness and embark on our healing journey. This model broadens the definition of trauma to encompass "anything less than nurturing," as described by Pia Mellody in her Post Induction Therapy. Recognizing these less than nurturing moments from our past is essential, as their imprints can profoundly influence our present functioning. When left unprocessed these traumas can disrupt our mental and physical well-being, as well as our relationships. HOCI integrates various therapeutic approaches, including Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing, Susan Johnson's Emotionally Focused Therapy, Terrence Real's Relational Life Therapy, and others, to facilitate deep self-discovery and healing.

EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a psychotherapy method effectively employed for processing a wide range of traumas. It addresses not only "big T" traumas, like major accidents or abuse, but also "little t" traumas which encompasses more common distressing experiences that may not be as severe but can still have a significant impact on one’s well-being, such as emotional abuse or childhood neglect. By using bilateral stimulation, EMDR aims to facilitate the brain's reprocessing of traumatic experiences This can lead to reduced emotional distress and the formation of healthier, more adaptive beliefs about the self and the traumatic event. EMDR has been found effective in treating various trauma-related disorders and has gained recognition as a valuable therapeutic approach for trauma recovery.

SE: Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a therapeutic approach developed by Peter Levine, a psychologist and expert in trauma treatment. It focuses on healing and resolving the effects of trauma and stress by emphasizing the body's innate ability to self-regulate and heal. SE provides a structured framework for assessing where individuals are "stuck" in the fight, flight, or freeze responses, offering a range of clinical tools to help resolve and release suppressed survival energy stored in the body. It addresses the root cause of trauma symptoms by gently guiding clients to develop increased tolerance for challenging bodily sensations and buried emotions.

PSIP: Psychedelic Somatic Interactional Psychotherapy

Psychedelic Somatic Interactional Psychotherapy (PSIP) is designed to help individuals process and integrate their experiences with psychedelic substances, such as cannabis and Ketamine, in a therapeutic setting.

In the PSIP model, which prioritizes deep emotional and bodily awareness and accessing unconscious programming to address stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma, cannabis stands out as an optimal therapeutic tool. Its strategic use during therapy sessions significantly enhances the therapeutic process and progress. PSIP aims to provide a holistic approach to healing and personal growth, leveraging the powerful and transformative potential of psychedelics while combining it with therapeutic techniques to maximize therapeutic benefits and long-term positive outcomes. PSIP is a therapeutic approach that combines elements of somatic therapy, psychotherapy, and psychedelic-assisted therapy.

Some things must be dealt with at the roots.
Trauma is one of those things.
